On June 9th, 2020, Bentley helped save the lives of three children at Holly Recreation. As a Clarkston resident at the time, the Independence Fire Department as well as Independence Firefighters, Local 2629 wanted to present this award to him for his heroic actions that day.

Congratulations on your retirement, Captain David Bridgewater!! Thank you for going above and beyond in being a mentor, friend and one of the hardest workers we know! Our department wouldn't be where it is today without you. Wishing you happiness beyond retirement. Bridgewater became an EMT in 1988 and a paramedic in 1991 working in the private ambulance service.
